Scam Alert: How to Verify You're Shopping With the Official Starbuy
We've been made aware of a few fraudulent websites that are copying the Starbuy name, logo and product images to mislead customers. This page explains how to confirm you're on our genuine website, what to do if you've interacted with the fake sites, and the action we're taking.
The only official Starbuy website is starbuy.com.au
Starbuy is operated by Star Jewels Pty Ltd, an Australian company and authorised retailer of the watch brands we sell, with a showroom in Alexandria, Sydney. We do not operate under any other domain name.
Before you place an order anywhere that looks like Starbuy, check the following:
Check the web address. Our only website is https://starbuy.com.au. Look at the address bar carefully — scam sites often use a similar name with a different ending (such as .com, .shop or .store), extra words, or subtle misspellings. If the address is anything other than starbuy.com.au, it is not us.
Check the payment methods. We accept standard, buyer-protected payment methods including major credit cards and PayPal as well as Buy-Now Pay-Later options Klarna, Afterpay and Zip. We will never ask you to pay by bank transfer to an overseas account, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or money transfer services. Any "Starbuy" site requesting these is fraudulent.
Check the contact details. Our showroom is in Alexandria, Sydney, and our ABN is 89 116 447 806. You can call us on 02 8069 0420 or email - sales@starbuy.com.au. The fraudulent sites will provide no genuine Australian contact details.
Be sceptical of impossible prices. Scam sites lure customers with prices far below market. If a "Starbuy" listing looks dramatically cheaper than the same watch on starbuy.com.au, it isn't a sale — it's bait.
What to do if you've ordered or paid on a fake site
- Contact your bank or card provider immediately and request a chargeback or transaction dispute. Do this first — speed matters.
- If you paid via PayPal, open a dispute through the PayPal Resolution Centre.
- Change your passwords if you created an account on the fake site, especially if you reuse that password elsewhere.
- Report the scam to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au), run by the ACCC. This helps authorities act and warns other consumers.
- Watch your card statements for further unauthorised transactions.
Please note: because the fraudulent sites are not connected to us in any way, we're unfortunately unable to refund payments made to it — but we're happy to help you with evidence (such as confirmation that an order number or receipt is not ours) to support your bank dispute. Contact us at sales@starbuy.com.au and let us know the information you are after and we will be able to assist with this.
What we're doing about it
We have reported the fraudulent sites we are aware of to its hosting providers and domain registrar for takedown, notified Google Safe Browsing, lodged a report with Scamwatch as well as to the NSW ReportCyber Referral team. We'll update this page as the situation changes.
