The Citizen Attesa AT8040-57E is a men's Eco-Drive chronograph in Super Titanium, and it's about as much technology as Citizen fits into a 43mm case. The case and matching bracelet are Super Titanium — Citizen's surface-hardened titanium that's around 40% lighter than steel and far more resistant to scratching — with a push-button clasp and a sapphire crystal over a black dial.
The dial layout is a three-register chronograph with a world-time display covering 26 cities, day-date, 24-hour display, power reserve indicator and a low-charge warning. Water resistance is 100 metres, so it's rated for swimming and snorkelling.
Powering it is Citizen's calibre H804, a light-powered Eco-Drive movement that charges from any light source, with a perpetual calendar that never needs correcting for month length or leap years, anti-magnetic construction and a power-save mode that stretches the reserve to around 10 months in the dark. The movement is radio-controlled for atomic-clock accuracy in Japan, Europe, the USA and China; in Australia there is no transmitter in range, so the watch simply runs on its own high-accuracy quartz and is set manually, which does not affect any other function.
Citizen has been making watches in Japan since 1918 and Attesa is its flagship technical line for the home market, which is why the finishing and feature set sit a level above the mainstream Eco-Drive range.
