The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer HBJ001P is a men’s solar chronograph for someone who wants a watch with real competition heritage that is also refined enough for everyday luxury. Its 41.4mm stainless steel case is 13mm thick, with a 45.9mm lug-to-lug span that sits close on the wrist.
The silver dial is framed by a black tachymeter bezel insert with redesigned graduations and protected by a curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface. The date window is colour-matched to the dial, so nothing interrupts the layout. It’s fitted with a stainless steel bracelet and a three-fold clasp with push-button release, and it weighs a reassuring 168 grams.
The Speedtimer name goes back to Seiko’s timing instruments of the 1960s, and the HBJ001P continues that heritage with the solar calibre V192. Any light charges it, a full charge runs it for about six months, and overcharge prevention protects the cell. It times events to one-fifth of a second for up to 60 minutes, with a small seconds hand, a 24-hour hand and a power reserve indicator alongside. Accuracy is ±15 seconds a month and magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m.
