The Seiko HGK003P is a limited edition men’s chronograph from the Conceptual collection, released for Seiko’s 145th anniversary. A purple dial gives it presence, and it joins the purple-dial pieces in Seiko’s anniversary line-up.
The 40mm stainless steel case is 11.5mm thick and 45.8mm lug to lug. It sits on a matching silver stainless steel bracelet with 20mm lugs and, at 152g, has the solid weight of a properly made steel watch. The dial is protected by sapphire crystal, uncommon at this price, and Lumibrite on the hands and markers keeps it readable after dark. With 100 metres of water resistance, it’s as ready for the weekend as it is for the office.
Inside is the Seiko 8T63 quartz chronograph calibre. It is accurate to ±15 seconds a month and runs for around three years on an SR936SW battery. The stopwatch times up to 60 minutes in 1/5th-second increments. A 24-hour indicator and a date display complete the dial without crowding it.
This is a purple-dial chronograph with sapphire crystal and the convenience of quartz: set it, wear it and forget about it. The steel bracelet and dial colour suit a tailored suit as well as an open-collar weekend.
