The Seiko HFL001P is a limited edition men’s digital alarm chronograph, released for Seiko’s 145th anniversary as part of the Conceptual collection. It is a compact, all-black statement piece. The 37mm black-finish stainless steel case is just 10.6mm thick and 43.5mm lug to lug. It sits on a matching black stainless steel bracelet, and a two-way rotating bezel frames the LCD display under a Hardlex crystal. At 108g it has real heft for its size. With 100 metres of water resistance, it’s built to be worn hard rather than kept in a drawer.
Inside is the Seiko A824 quartz module, accurate to ±20 seconds a month and powered by a CR2016 battery with an approximate three-year life. It packs in more than its size suggests. There are two individually set daily alarms, and a stopwatch that times up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds in 1/100th-second increments. A 100-minute countdown timer, a second time zone and a perpetual calendar that adjusts for short months and leap years until 2074 round out the functions.
An electroluminescent backlight lights the display evenly at night. This is a black digital watch for the man who appreciates design with a technical edge: it works at the gym, on the trail, on a flight and as a distinctive alternative at the office.
