The Seiko 5 Sports HDB010K1 is a limited-edition collaboration with the Honda MOTOCOMPO, the fold-up 49cc scooter Honda launched in 1981 to fit in the boot of its City hatchback.

Built on the 5 Sports Field series, it uses a compact 36.4mm stainless steel case with a hard coating for scratch resistance, 12.5mm thick and 44.4mm lug to lug, on an 18mm nylon strap. The dial is the MOTOCOMPO's signature yellow, cut across the centre by a black band carrying the HONDA logo, with the AUTOMATIC lettering at 6 o'clock set in a typeface drawn from the scooter's own badge. LumiBrite on the hands and indices keeps it readable at night under the curved Hardlex crystal.

The details are where this one earns its collector status. The crown is marked TURN after the MOTOCOMPO fuel cock, the strap reads CARRYING POINT and INSERTION POINT in a nod to how the bike was strapped into the car, and the see-through screw-down caseback carries the MOTOCOMPO silhouette, Limited Edition wording and an individual serial number.

Inside is Seiko's Calibre 4R36, a Japanese automatic with manual winding and hacking seconds, 24 jewels, a day-date display and around 41 hours of power reserve. It is rated to 10 bar (100m) with 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance and weighs just 64g. Each of the 8,000 pieces ships in a special box styled after the corrugated carton the MOTOCOMPO was delivered in.
