Seiko 5 Sports ‘Overwhite’ Field GMT Automatic Watch SSK059K
The Seiko 5 Sports ‘Overwhite’ Field GMT SSK059K is a confident men’s automatic watch that brings together rugged field-watch character, practical travel functionality and Seiko’s respected Japanese watchmaking heritage. Inspired by military-style trench watches built for reliability in demanding conditions, this Seiko 5 Sports Field GMT features a crisp textured white dial, a silver-coloured 24-hour bezel and a bold orange GMT hand, allowing the wearer to track a second time zone with ease. Powered by the Seiko 4R34 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve, this Japanese automatic GMT watch is designed for men who appreciate mechanical precision, everyday durability and timeless utility.
Crafted in stainless steel with a robust case and multi-row stainless steel bracelet, the Seiko SSK059K balances strength with refined detail. The 39.4mm case offers a versatile wrist presence, while LumiBrite on the hands and indexes supports clear legibility in low light. A curved Hardlex crystal, see-through screw case back, stop-seconds function and 10 bar water resistance add to its practical appeal, making this Seiko 5 Sports automatic watch a strong choice for daily wear, travel, work and weekend adventure. As part of the Seiko 5 Sports collection, it continues the brand’s long-standing reputation for reliability, durability, performance and value, while connecting back to Seiko’s Japanese origins in Tokyo, where Kintaro Hattori began the company’s watchmaking story in 1881.
What we love about the Seiko 5 Sports ‘Overwhite’ Field GMT SSK059K is how it has the purposeful feel of a true field watch, but with the added sophistication of a GMT complication and a fresh white dial that feels sharp, modern and highly wearable. We love the contrast of the orange GMT hand against the clean dial, the reliable Seiko automatic movement, and the way this piece captures Japanese precision, sports-watch toughness and everyday masculine style in one accessible package. Product Code: SSK059K.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a white dial harder to read at night than a black dial?
In daylight a white dial is generally the more legible of the two, because black hands and markers against a light background give the strongest possible contrast. At night the difference disappears: the SSK059K's hands and hour markers carry Seiko's LumiBrite, which charges under any light source and glows independently of the dial colour. Where white dials do behave differently is in bright sun, where some wearers find the reflection off a light dial harsher than a matte black one. The practical trade-off is legibility by day against glare in direct sunlight.
Does the white dial on the Seiko SSK059K discolour over time?
Modern Seiko dials are lacquered and UV-stable, so meaningful yellowing is not something owners of current-production watches should expect. The tropical or creamy patina collectors prize on vintage watches comes from decades-old dial finishes and lume compounds that are no longer used. Over many years the LumiBrite on hands and markers may age slightly, but the dial surface itself should stay true. Ordinary care is enough: keep the watch out of prolonged direct sun when it isn't being worn, and have gaskets checked periodically so moisture never reaches the dial
Is the Seiko SSK059K a good first automatic watch?
It's one of the strongest entry points into mechanical watches available. Calibre 4R34 is Seiko's workhorse automatic — it winds by wrist movement, can be hand-wound if it has been sitting, hacks for precise setting, and holds a 41-hour reserve, which means a watch worn Friday will usually still be running Sunday morning. There is no battery to replace, servicing intervals run to years rather than months, and 100m water resistance means normal life won't trouble it. The GMT hand also gives a genuine second complication to learn, so it stays interesting well beyond the first year — and a white dial on a steel bracelet is about as versatile a first watch as exists.
