Seiko Presage SRPJ21J Cocktail Time 'The Blue Curacao' is a mechanical automatic movement watch and is Made in Japan.

This timepiece is from the Presage Cocktail Time collection, watches inspired by the Japanese cocktail culture in Tokyo’s sophisticated Ginza area, each named after a specific cocktail. This particular design is named after ‘The Blue Curacao’ cocktail – taking its hues from the the deep blue tones from Blue Curacao.

In Japan, traditionally ‘Nomunication hour’ – a hybrid of nomu (drink) and communication – is after 5pm, when it’s cocktail hour and time to talk things over. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time collection was inspired by this Japanese tradition of finishing the working day off with a cocktail and a chat – with each timepiece named after drinks mixed by Hisashi Kishi, head bartender and owner of Star Bar in Tokyo’s Ginza area and a past winner of the International Bar Association World Championships.

The SRPJ21 features the Seiko calibre 4R35 that is both manual as well as a self winding automatic movement with a normal operating accuracy tolerance of +45 / -35 seconds per day and a power reserve of 41 hours. The watch has a 39.5mm stainless steel case with thickness of 11.8mm, a lug-to-lug size of 46mm, a stitched brown crocodile pattern leather strap with steel hands and indexes and box shape hardlex glass. Water resistance rating is 50m and additional features include a screw case back, exhibition case back and a date display.

What we love: From a distance, it's evident that this dial opts for a more subdued approach compared to its Cocktail time predecessors, foregoing bold patterns for a more understated aesthetic. However, upon closer inspection, its elegance truly shines through. At a macro level, intricate interlocking ribs grace the surface, reminiscent of the sunburst lines but in a more subtle rendition. When the watch catches the light, particularly in sunlight, the effect is simply breathtaking. The dial gleams with a mesmerizing brilliance, accentuated by a captivating gradation from a vibrant inner color to a deeper hue at the periphery, evoking the artistry of a finely crafted watercolor painting.
