Is this the Best Oris Watch yet?
Oris ProPilot X Series – A New Benchmark in Titanium Watchmaking
The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 represents a bold step forward for Oris in both design and technical execution. As one of the standout releases in recent years, the PPX series brings a fresh perspective to modern pilot-inspired timepieces, blending utility with refined industrial aesthetics.
From the outset, the ProPilot X generatated strong anticipation. Crafted entirely in titanium, the 39mm case (12mm thick) offers a lightweight yet robust feel. Its hard lines and angular bracelet design reflect a contemporary evolution of the ProPilot family’s core design language, which includes the turbine-inspired bezel and streamlined case contours.
The PPX series is powered by the in-house Oris Calibre 400 movement, which sets a new standard in this segment. Key specifications include a five-day power reserve via a twin-barrel system, a 10-year recommended service interval, and heightened anti-magnetic resistance. The Cal. 400 movement also delivers a hacking seconds function, quick-set date, and an efficient 28,800 bph beat rate. It’s a reliable movement aimed at long-term performance.
Three dial variants are available: matte grey, mid-tone blue, and salmon. While the dial layout is minimal—comprising stick indices, a date window at 6 o’clock, and subtle branding—it enhances legibility and keeps the visual focus on the case and bracelet.
The bracelet of the Oris Propilot PPX series is a highlight. Made from titanium and highly articulated, it provides an exceptionally comfortable fit. The unique link structure reflects light subtly, reinforcing the modern aesthetic. The clasp, inspired by aircraft seatbelt mechanisms, is secure and well-executed, enhancing the watch’s aviation DNA.
Although the dial design is understated, it complements the watch’s stealth profile. Combined with the matte finishes and technical proportions, the PPX stands out in a crowded segment not by shouting for attention, but by quietly asserting quality and innovation.
For collectors seeking a versatile everyday watch that merges distinctive design with modern movement technology, the Oris ProPilot X Cal. 400 is a compelling option. It offers the full package: durability, comfort, precision, and individuality.
Having worn my new Salmon dial PPX for near on daily over the past 2 months, I have found the watch to be unobtrusive, almost too easy to wear after a Nylon strap Fortis and a great conversation starter due to the colour contrast between the dial and the titanium bracelet. When seen by the watch 'novices' the see through case back is always a highlight.
Is this the best Oris watch? That depends on your criteria—but in terms of innovation, wearability, and value within its segment, the ProPilot X makes a very strong case.

No doubt about the PPX. For looks, innovation, wearability and general practicality, the PPX is an awesome watch. It’s a great way to get into the Oris 400 calibre and if you get the sort of price I got in one of Starbuy’s specials, you simply won’t get better value anywhere in the world. But that goes without saying where Starbuy value is concerned.
