ORIS OKAVANGO AIR RESCUE LIMITED EDITION PROPILOT WATCH

BACKGROUND

One of the natural wonders of the world, the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana is made up of some of the most beautiful landscapes, combining rivers, marshes, grassland, and large collection of islands to create the most important water source for wildlife in Africa. During the rainy season, when the water levels rise, the delta area becomes home to lions, leopards, water buffalo, elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, hippopotamuses, cheetahs, crocodiles, antelope, and a collection of other smaller animals. 

The new Oris Okavango Air Rescue limited edition watch commemorates the 10th anniversary of Botswana’s aeromedical rescue organisation with the release of the iconic ProPilot variant with the most stunning green dial made to reflect the beauty of the delta and the selfless service of the Air Rescue team. 

FUNCTIONALITY

At the heart of this Oris Okavango Limited Edition 01 751 7761 4187-Set ProPilot Date watch is the powerful Oris 751 automatic winding movement which equips the timepiece with classic hour, minute and seconds function, an enlarged date window at 3 o clock and a power reserve of 38 hours. The striking Green dial is housed within scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass (domed on both sides) coated in an anti-reflective treatment and decorated with Arabic numerals and large propeller style hands layered with glow in the dark Superluminova. For the finishing touch, this Oris Big Crown ProPilot is fitted with a stunning green and white stripe textile strap fastened with a stainless steel clasp.

The case is in a brush (matte) finish stainless steel with the classic ProPilot coin edge bezel and a screw lock crown. The basic dimensions are case size of 41mm, case thickness of 13mm, lug width of 20mm and a lug-to-lug size of 49mm. The watch has a 100m water resistance rating. The watch is shipped in a special box with a leather travel pouch thats designed to hold the spare chestnut brown leather strap.

PERSONAL IMPRESSION

With all the Green dials out there, Oris have hit the ball out the park with their version, not only of the multi-textured green but also the finish and the look of the dial. 

The double domed sapphire glass with the non-reflective coating really shows of the dial beautifully. The green textile strap with the white...or is it ivory...pattern forms a link to the green of the dial and the colour of the hands and indices. The red tipped second hand almost appears to be an animal roaming the grasslands.

How stunning is the overall look of the timepiece....for me atleast, I am off to pop on the pith helmet, put on the safari suit and find me a cane to keep the lions at bay.
