Ball Engineer M Skindiver III Mens Automatic Watch DD3100A-S1C-BE. Case Size 41.5mm. Limited Edition of 1000 globally.

More than a robust chronometer, the Engineer M Skindiver III DD3100A-S1C-BE pulls together Ball signature features and next-generation capability, all while showcasing a few vintage touches. Their one-of-a-kind micro gas tubes have been integrated below the ultra-durable domed sapphire bezel, ensuring extreme readability in all darkness. On the wrist, the 41.5mm diameter and 14mm height pair with 5mm domed sapphire crystal and drilled lugs to deliver the perfect mix of toughness and comfort. Amid harsh knocks, the Ball patented resistance technology shields the COSC certified precision of their in-house caliber. The newest in their long line of trusted divers, the Engineer M Skindiver III is a game-changer for dark depths and watchmaking.

Darkness is not the time to stop exploring. Rather, it’s the chance to explore like never before. With the Ball revolutionary micro gas tubes integrated directly below the domed sapphire bezel, you can easily measure elapsed time in all dark environments – from nighttime to dive time. The illuminated bezel works in complete harmony with the dial’s robust 1mm micro gas tubes at each hour marker and the slimmer tubes on the hour and minute hands. Whether tracking exploration or simply reading the time of day, you can trust in the powerful luminosity that shines bright in every condition.

Impressive in both function and design, the black sapphire bezel is one of the timepiece’s many highlights. Its domed shape is the result of a sophisticated and time-consuming machining process, in contrast to easier-to-produce flat sapphire bezels. The sapphire’s beautiful finishing, virtually-scratchproof exterior and unique brightness all combine to create a truly remarkable accomplishment. In underwater darkness up to 300 meters deep, the uni-directional rotating bezel can be used to track 60 minutes of elapsed dive time.

Extreme accuracy is not only a Ball tradition, it’s also their requirement. Running on Caliber 7309-C – the Ball chronometer manufacture caliber – the Engineer M Skindiver III has undergone rigorous testing by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Going beyond ordinary autonomy, its 80-hour power reserve still maintains a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4Hz).

But is there exploration without adversity? When venturing into imperfect conditions, the precision is protected by the Ball patented Amortiser® anti-shock system. Reliable and robust, the Amortiser surrounds the entire movement and absorbs intense shock impact. Knock after knock, the Swiss-made mechanical movement beats with COSC precision – minute after minute.

Every facet of an automatic watch adds to its ability and aesthetics and the construction of the crystal sapphire and case are perfect examples. Like the bezel, the crystal sapphire above the dial has a domed shape. And at 5mm thick, it delivers ultra-tough durability, the kind that is enough to withstand underwater pressure that is 30 times greater than the pressure at sea level. Shaped from stainless steel, the 41.5mm case measures 14mm in thickness, ensuring that both solid toughness and everyday comfort are easily felt. These attributes extend all the way to the drilled lugs. Functionally, the drilled lugs and screw bar strengthen the connection between the bracelet and case, protecting against daily knocks. Visually, the drilled lugs add a touch of industrial style befitting a tool watch like this – one made for daily-wearer status.

What we like: A more perfect dive watch would be hard to imagine. The clean and clear dial with all the functionality required of a full fledged dive watch and this is the result.  The Limited Edition release only adds to the overall appeal of the watch. Another winner from Ball Watches for us.
