The Squale 2001 collection marks a defining chapter in dive watch history, emerging during the transformative 1960s, when cutting-edge technology redefined timepieces for professional use. The original Squale 2001 set itself apart with its distinctive case design, featuring hidden lugs, and its revolutionary "push to release" bezel-locking system. With a remarkable water resistance of 100m , it quickly became a symbol of dive watch excellence and inspired subsequent collections like the Squale 2002 and 2003.

A significant moment in its legacy came in 1972, when Jacques-Yves Cousteau gifted a Squale 2001 to Michel Laval, the first officer of the Calypso, during their Antarctic expedition. Engraved with Cousteau's initials and Laval's name, this watch became a symbol of camaraderie and exploration, continuing a tradition of meaningful gifts for key crew members.

Now, Squale celebrates this legacy with a limited-edition release of just 300 pieces. Faithfully replicating the original, the new Squale 2001LAVAL.HT retains its iconic proportions and design. The asymmetric, barrel-shaped case with hidden lugs measures 40mm in diameter and 43mm in length, offering a compact feel. The crown, positioned at 4 o’clock, integrates seamlessly into the polished stainless steel case.

The two-tone bezel, crafted from sapphire crystal, features a vintage-inspired black-and-orange design. Its "push to release" mechanism ensures secure adjustment, locking in place with perpendicular pressure to prevent accidental movement.

The dial embraces retro charm with a black finish, a white rehaut, and bold minute markers. Polished steel indices, coated with Super-Luminova C3, guarantee excellent legibility in low-light conditions. True to the original, the dial bears the word “Saphir,” denoting the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that protects it.

Powering the watch is the reliable Swiss-made Sellita SW 200 automatic movement, offering precision and durability under the most demanding conditions. It features a quick-set date function displayed at the 3 o’clock position.

With water resistance up to 600m or 60 atmospheres, the Squale 2001Laval.ht is built to endure. Its Tropic-style rubber strap pays homage to the watch worn by Laval, completing the perfect blend of history, style, and performance.

The case size of the Squale 2001LAVAL.HT is 40mm with a thickness of 13mm, lug-to-lug of 43.6mm and a lug width of 19mm. The case back is 316 L Stainless Steel. The lockdown screw in crown is at the 4'o clock marker and the case back is screw in. The Bezel is a Bi-Directional Push-to-Release one.

The Squale 2001LAVAL.HT uses the Sellita Elabore SW200-1 mechanical automatic movement with a frequency of 28800 a/h (4Hz) and uses 26 jewels. The movement has a power reserve of 38 hours.

2 Year warranty from Squale. StarBuy are Authorised distributors of Squale Professional Dive Watches. All Squale Watches are shipped in Squale original packaging with a warranty card. The Squale warranty must be activated online by inserting the 6-digit serial number found on the case back and the date of purchase. StarBuy recommend activating the warranty after the receipt of the watch

  Yes, a signature is required upon delivery. If no one is home, we recommend using a work address. Australia Post may offer contactless delivery—in those cases, we follow their current safety protocols. Risk and ownership transfer to the recipient upon delivery.
  

• What if I am not home when my order arrives?
  If no one is available to sign, Australia Post will leave a card with details on how to collect your parcel from the closest authorised Australia Post Office. You’ll need to present a photo ID at the post office to pick it up. If you’ve authorised a Safe Drop with Australia Post previously, they’ll follow your existing instructions.

• What are your shipping charges?
  We offer free shipping Australia-wide with Australia Post Express. For approved brands shipped to New Zealand, a $10 flat fee will be added to your total at checkout. Approved parcels to NZ are shipped within the Australia Post / NZ Post network.
